Happy October! Also, A Cry for Help!

It's here, people. October has begun and I'm sure there's going to be tons of excellent blog entries from my friends out here in the blogosphere.

So here's the problem... I could not think of ANYTHING special I wanted to do for my blog for this fine Halloween month. I don't have the time or the discipline to do 31 movies, one for every day of the month, so that's out. So then I thought maybe I'd just dedicate each week to something specific, like a certain director or a certain type of horror film, but my mind is just completely blank on that. I know I want to do a week dedicated to stuff about the Buffy, the Vampire Slayer TV show so that's one week down, but the others... I got nuthin.

Can any of you blog buddies give me some ideas of what I could do? Or anything that you'd like to see me review or talk about? I didn't do anything special for Halloween last year and I know I should have started, like, 3 months ago for my October posts but... well, I don't have an excuse. I'm just a slacker.

So what say you? Anybody got anything?

  1. You can go classic and review Universal's mummy movies from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s (if you thrown in "Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy"). that would be exactly a week's worth, with a post each each day.

If you want to torture yourself with some really crappy movies, you could review the entire "Witchouse" or "Witchcraft" series. (Not that I necessarily recommend doing either of those. I don't want to get sued for being the cause of rotting your brain away.

On a similar note, you could review the Full Moon vampire series "Subspecies" along with spin-offs "Vampire Journals" and "Decadent Evil". that would be a week's worth of decent vampire movies... save for the last one.

OR.. you could pick an iconic monster type (vampire, werewolf, mummy, zombie, witch, demon, what have you) and do a little essay on it, together with a review of a movie that features it.

(Me, I took the easy way out this year... I'm posting pictures of Vampirella. :) )

  3. I don't have any suggestions, but I am definitely looking forward to reading about what you have to say about Buffy!

  4. hm, maybe a post dedicated to your favorite decade?
    or your favorite franchise?
    Halloween-themed movies (without Myers)?
    revisiting the Poltergeist films?

  5. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that doing an every day thing will either a) not work or b) drive you crazy. So I don't recommend that.

I too was gonna recommend Halloween flavored movies, which Maynard already said. One of my favorite October tactics is spotlighting horror movies that aren't usually mentioned as the classics of the season, which allows me to pimp the likes of Targets or The Devil Rides Out while people are thinking about Frankenstein or Dracula.

Whatever you do, just have fun with it! It amazes me how stressed we horror fans - myself incluced - get stressed about the Halloween season. Which only means that we love it a ton, which is awesome.

  9. Thank you so much, everybody! I've definitely got some inspiration now, maybe it's going to just as easy as talking about my favorite things about horror. Not stressing anymore... it's a good feeling!

  10. how about something about slasher film masks? worse to best, something like that?

Craziest Halloween flicks? Horror and non-horror?
